  • Umembeso is a pre-wedding ceremony held in the Zulu culture to celebrate the union of two families. The word “umembeso” is derived from the Zulu verb “ukubesa,” which means “to carry” or “to bring.” In this context, it refers to the act of bringing gifts to the bride’s family by the groom’s family.
